During the hot weather my mum makes chaas as it's loved by my dad. Chaas is buttermilk but here in the UK that's not very common so we use yogurt and water as a buttermilk alternative. You can get different flavours which can include plain, salty, sweet and masala. Here I will be sharing the masala chaas recipe my mum makes which is also know as Atheli Chaas in Gujarati.

Gujarati atheli chaas recipe

Ingredients:

3 tbsp yogurt

1 cup water Salt to taste

1/4 tsp cumin powder 1/4 tsp green masala (green chilli, ginger, garlic paste)

Coriander leaves to garnish

7-10 curry leaves

Method

In a bowl whisk together the yogurt and water until fully combined. You can add more water depending on how thin you want the chaas to be.

Once combined add in the salt, cumin powder and green masala. Mix again with the whisk until fully combined. Also whisk the chaas until it becomes a little airy/bubbly.

Finish off with some coriander leaves and curry leaves and mix. Leave this to cool in the fridge.

Once the masala chaas is cold. It's ready to drink as is or with some ice.

Drink this alone in the heat to cool down or along side an indian meal. Enjoy!
